D'Arcy Wickham Guitar Workshop and Concert

One of the goals of the Pickering Ajax Guitar Association is to bring in experienced professionals who can offer workshops and concerts to aid in the development and improvement of guitar technique for local Durham Region guitarists.

With that goal in mind, the association will be sponsoring its second event: a guitar workshop and concert that emphasize strength in the fundamentals of fingerstyle guitar as the starting point for both newer and experienced guitarists. Noted guitar instructor and performer D'Arcy Wickham will be hosting the workshop from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 in the banquet room at the Bayly Restaurant, 325 Westney Rd. S. at Bayly St. in Ajax (905-427-9933). Later that evening, from 9:00 to 10:30 p.m., D'Arcy will be performing in concert in the banquet room.

Tickets for the workshop are $15 and for the concert are $10, or for both are $20, and can be obtained by contacting Terry Hart at 416-222-8282-ext. 6401 or by emailing terryhart@terryhart.ca.

Workshop and concert participants are welcome to stay for dinner at the restaurant before or after the workshop. Dinner reservations are recommended. D'Arcy Wickham was a natural choice for the second event. Recently, he has been touring Ontario with concerts in Oakville at the Centre for the Performing Arts, Hugh's Room and the Free Times Café in Toronto, as well as upcoming dates at sixty-six on brock in Uxbridge and the Corner Coffeehouse in Newmarket. Part of that tour included opening for internationally famous Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel at Hugh's Room.

In March 2005 he returned to Hughfls Room to release his second solo CD Feather Fingers, to a sold-out audience. This second recording was very well received in the press, including the Toronto Star.

D'Arcy has over 25 years of experience as a guitar instructor and has personally developed courses in rock and blues, folk fingerstyle, country and bluegrass for his students. A highly successful teacher, he has assisted beginners through to professionals in the art of mastering the guitar. The association welcomes all Durham Region guitarists to join D'Arcy for an exceptional afternoon and evening of guitar.

Brix Dec. 23rd /04

Had a great gig just before Christmas at Brix in Uxbridge. I was joined by Pete Mosely who is a drummer and percussionist extrordinaire. Pete and I have known eachother since the late 60's when we marched together in the Del La Salle Drum Corps. I met up with pete at a regular meeting of corps alumni last summer, and we have been working together ever since on several projects ; revamping my website; designing my upcoming CD artwork and graphics, and hopefully playing a whole bunch of music together in the future. What a gas to play an evening with strong percussion under the songs. They felt completely different and we ventured off into some cool improv as well.

Free Times Cafe Anniversary Concert Dec.15 /04

Wow! What a fine night of songwriters! Among those performing were three friends who are well known to the Toronto writing scene : Russel Leon, who runs the ' Songwriters Unite ' concert series at Hugh's Room and Graffitis ; Noah Zacharin ,who has a radio show CKLN Ryerson sunday nights from 7 - 8 pm; and Angie Nussey, who I first met when we did a set of music two years ago at Cafe May to benefit Breast Cancer research. I hope to have links up these and other fine Toronto songwriters soon

News and Updates

Just a few things to bring to your attention

Firstly, I'll be performing at the Corner Coffee House 227 Main St. S. Newmarket (905 895 1696) on Saturday Dec 11. This a very good venue for music. Great venues are hard to find. I'm on about 8 and finish at 10:30

Secondly, for Guitar Students, no lessons Dec 24 to Jan 3 inclusive.

A Very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah.

Lastly, I am very supportive of a new fingerstyle guitar organization started by my good friend Randy Finney. This is a strictly non-profit organization ( there isn't even a fee to join ) set up solely for the purpose of turning people on to the joys of fingerstyle guitar. Many of you have already joined and are participating in attending some great concerts and workshops ( at very low prices ) as well as open stages and picking parties. The organization is the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association.

Email Randy at randyfinney@roger.com

Or let me know if you are interested and I'll send him your email.

All the best, and Happy Pickin'.
