D'Arcy Wickham Guitar Workshop and Concert
One of the goals of the Pickering Ajax Guitar Association is to bring in experienced professionals who can offer workshops and concerts to aid in the development and improvement of guitar technique for local Durham Region guitarists.
With that goal in mind, the association will be sponsoring its second event: a guitar workshop and concert that emphasize strength in the fundamentals of fingerstyle guitar as the starting point for both newer and experienced guitarists. Noted guitar instructor and performer D'Arcy Wickham will be hosting the workshop from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 in the banquet room at the Bayly Restaurant, 325 Westney Rd. S. at Bayly St. in Ajax (905-427-9933). Later that evening, from 9:00 to 10:30 p.m., D'Arcy will be performing in concert in the banquet room.
Tickets for the workshop are $15 and for the concert are $10, or for both are $20, and can be obtained by contacting Terry Hart at 416-222-8282-ext. 6401 or by emailing terryhart@terryhart.ca.
Workshop and concert participants are welcome to stay for dinner at the restaurant before or after the workshop. Dinner reservations are recommended. D'Arcy Wickham was a natural choice for the second event. Recently, he has been touring Ontario with concerts in Oakville at the Centre for the Performing Arts, Hugh's Room and the Free Times Café in Toronto, as well as upcoming dates at sixty-six on brock in Uxbridge and the Corner Coffeehouse in Newmarket. Part of that tour included opening for internationally famous Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel at Hugh's Room.
In March 2005 he returned to Hughfls Room to release his second solo CD Feather Fingers, to a sold-out audience. This second recording was very well received in the press, including the Toronto Star.
D'Arcy has over 25 years of experience as a guitar instructor and has personally developed courses in rock and blues, folk fingerstyle, country and bluegrass for his students. A highly successful teacher, he has assisted beginners through to professionals in the art of mastering the guitar. The association welcomes all Durham Region guitarists to join D'Arcy for an exceptional afternoon and evening of guitar.
